Thanks for your interest in my story. You could say that this is part 2 of the story, as I have been on this journey of weight loss (check it out here) before. In 2005, I changed my life and began the trek to lose 116 lbs after a life of obesity. I was successful and kept the weight off…until I got pregnant. And that is where this story begins.

I weighed in at 175 when I got pregnant, which is at the top of my healthy weight range. As many first-timers in pregnancy do, I began eating for 2, or in this case 3. I was pregnant with twins, which does call for even more calories than the average pregnancy, but I used it as my free ticket to go back to my old ways and eat whatever and however much I wanted. Not only did my eating habits go downhill, so did my workouts. I told myself that I couldn’t gain all of my weight back in 9 months of pregnancy. Could I?

At the 4th month of pregnancy, we lost one of our babies. It was a very rough time and the old me came out in full force – eating for comfort. By the time I was 7 months along, I knew that I had really packed on the pounds, so I told my doctor that I didn’t want to know my weight through the rest of my pregnancy. I was just going to deal with it after I had the baby.

On March 4 2008, nearly 2 weeks past due, our son Brady was born! We had a healthy, happy baby boy – and a fat, unhealthy Mommy! And this is where the title came from: It’s a Boy – And I’m Fat!

Exactly 1 week after Brady was born, I stepped on the scale. I came out of the bathroom crying. 262.5 was the number that I saw. Only 16.5 pounds less than I was when I began my journey in 2005. The thought of starting over was overwhelming, but I knew what I needed to do. I had been on the other side of the fence and the grass was so much more lush and green, there was no way I was going to stay on this side.

I had to wait until I got the go ahead from my doctor at my 6 week checkup in order to participate in physical activity. So at 1 week postpartum, the only thing that I could do is work on my eating habits and get back to my healthy ways. The number on the scale started to move down and at exactly 6 weeks postpartum, I was back on the treadmill and dreaming of that size 10 wardrobe awaiting me in my closet.

My husband and I want our kids to be close in age. Our plan was to start trying again when our first was 9 months old, but I promised myself that I would get back to my pre-pregnancy weight before getting pregnant again. Thus my weight loss goal had been forged for me. 175 pounds by December 2008. On December 12, 2008 I hit 176.5 – 1.5 lbs shy of my goal, but a victory none-the-less!

We began trying and were lucky enough to get pregnant right away again. My goal was to stay as healthy as possible in my 2nd pregnancy and not gain all of the weight I did the first time around. Our baby girl was born on October 4, 2009. I gained a total of 53 lbs during my pregnancy. While it was about 20 lbs more than I had hoped to gain, it was still half as much as I had gained in my 1st pregnancy, so that was the plus side. The negative – I had more weight to lose!
So here I am on the next leg of my journey, with 2 beautiful children and some more baby weight to lose. We are looking forward to getting pregnant again with baby #3, and yet again, I would like to get back to my regular weight of 175 before that happens. So keep stopping by and watching me on my way to achieving my next goal!
